Cracking Codes

Phil Burkett, AIA ___Melinda Richards
Studio Manager____Business Development Associate

About every 3 years building codes are adjusted in response to new information, new technologies, lawsuits, past tragedies, etc. Building codes are meant to help reduce panic in emergency situations, protect the safety of building occupants and fire fighters, and they also protect the property of the building tenants as well as the property of adjacent buildings.

On a bimonthly basis, Meyer Design, Inc. hosts an informational breakfast called "Broker Club" to keep the broker community aware of important tools they can utilize to better serve their tenants.

Phil Burkett AIA, Studio Manager, and Melinda Richards, Business Development Associate, hosted our July breakfast and educated our audience on the importance of building codes in accomplishing successful real estate deals. Staying current on building code modifications helps brokers to better assist their tenants in making informed decisions for more efficient, economical real estate deals, which is a win-win for everyone!

The presentation addressed these crucial Life & Safety topics:

  • Means of Egress
  • Americans with Disabilities Act
  • Energy Efficiency
  • Dead End Distances
  • Fire Ratings
