Life, "Liberty" and the Pursuit of Green Design


Liberty Property Trust was chosen as the recipient of the 2005 Delaware Valley Green Building Council Board (DVGBC) Achievement Award.

George Wilson, Membership Committee Chair of the DVGBC and Principal of Meyer Architects, presented the award to Bill Hankowski, President & CEO of Liberty Property Trust at DVGBC's Annual Membership Meeting. More than 300 members and guests celebrated on October 20 at Liberty's LEED Core and Shell pilot project at One Crescent Drive in the Philadelphia Naval Business Center.

Liberty Property Trust has been recognized for its leadership and vision in developing green buildings throughout the country. Its promotion of green building practices and adoption of the LEED rating standard has been sending a strong message to the industry that sustainable / green design not only benefits the environment, but makes good business sense. Liberty has been a major supporter of the DVGBC since its inception in 2002.

Guest speaker, Kevin Hydes, US Green Building Council Chairman and President of Keen Engineering, opened with the song "Sailing to Philadelphia" by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) and encouraged the crowd to participate in the sing along. Kevin shared his reflections of years past on how the Green Design movement has taken shape and the positive contributions our community is making through Green Design to make the world even better.

A long-standing supporter of Green Design, Kevin is well-known in Canada for his expertise and is a founding chair of the USGBC Cascadia Chapter.
