The company was acquired by ING Real Estate and became a wholly owned subsidiary of ING Groep, N.V. (Netherlands). It has nearly doubled in size and continues to grow rapidly. ING CRES turned
to Jim Paterno from Stockton Real Estate Advisors to locate a
new space in Radnor that could accommodate the company's spatial needs.
Jim assisted in selecting 201 King of Prussia Road and recommended Meyer
Design, Inc. for the project. Meyer Design, Inc. assisted in designing
ING CRES's original space in 1984. Meyer Design, Inc. worked closely with the ING CRES team: T. Ritson Ferguson, Chief Investment Officer;Maria Lucci, Office Manager; and Mimi Russo of Brandywine Realty Trust to identify the most effective ways to utilize the space. To support their business objectives, ING needed a more open, flexible space with multifunctional areas to promote interaction and provide more options for hosting clients. ING CRES also requested Meyer to integrate design elements that would highlight their trading area.
To minimize that dark, closed feeling, Meyer implemented a number of design details to visually broaden the space. Meyer incorporated the building columns into the design by wrapping them in a deep chocolate-brown wood, which adds a sophisticated flair to the 1,100 square foot Trader area. Utilizing the columns
and integrating a curved wall with barn doors helps to break up the
long corridor and makes the space appear more open by increasing visual
interest. To
further establish an open, airy feeling, Meyer specified glass panel
walls for the conference rooms and side lights for private offices,
which allows more natural light to permeate into the center of the building
to the workstation areas. Meyer also specified direct and indirect lighting fixtures throughout the office and raised the ceiling in the Trader area to create a brighter atmosphere. To increase flexibility, more conference rooms and small multipurpose meeting areas were merged into the design. A breakout / lounge area and pantry in the Trading area adds another level of interaction for the staff. Three conference rooms with video conferencing capabilities and a remote pantry were implemented adjacent to the reception area for impromptu meetings as well as a functional space for entertaining clients. Maria Lucci spearheaded the furniture selection and utilized Meyer Design as a consultant. Maria selected Knoll AutoStrata workstations to enhance team interaction. Meyer coordinated construction drawings with AOE. The final result
is a sophisticated, flexible workspace that supports ING Clarion Real
Estate's business objectives. Utilizing design to elevate their corporate
image to a higher level will contribute to their continued success.
